Co-in-Co Project

In the wake of the global pandemic, resilience has become a buzzword, a quality desperately sought after by businesses worldwide. In the heart of the Nordic region, a remarkable partnership emerged in early 2021, united by a common mission to support micro-businesses on their journey to recovery and resilience after the tumultuous impact of COVID-19. This coalition, spanning seven countries, represents a beacon of hope for small enterprises seeking to adapt, thrive, and rebuild.

The Driving Force

The Nordic-Baltic rural areas, characterized by their reliance on small businesses and self-employed individuals, witnessed the economic aftermath of COVID-19 acutely. With around 75% of jobs rooted in these sectors, the pandemic struck industries such as tourism, agriculture, transportation, and retail with unprecedented force. The digital divide further compounded the challenges; rural regions faced greater difficulty transitioning to remote work and online service delivery compared to their urban counterparts.

Recognizing this pressing need, the partners behind the Co-in-Co project set out with a resolute goal: to bolster the digital transformation of these micro-businesses through training and the promotion of digital resources. As stalwarts of adult training and lifelong learning within rural landscapes, they intimately understood the critical role of digital practices in maintaining competitiveness and navigating the upheavals caused by the pandemic. They also acknowledged the strength inherent in collective efforts, drawing from their participation in numerous national and transnational initiatives.

A New Chapter Begins

November 1st, 2021 marked a significant milestone as the partners convened to review the application evaluation and chart the course ahead. Over the next 28 months, a trilogy of training modules will take shape: “Entrepreneurship in Cluster Networks,” “General Digital Skills,” and “Digital Skills for Entrepreneurs.” The partners’ expertise will be shared and exchanged as they equip each other with the essential competencies needed for the digital era.

Yet, this is only the beginning. The real magic lies in the grassroots implementation. The training materials developed by this alliance will undergo rigorous testing and refinement in the field. The green landscapes of Greenland, the vibrant tapestry of Estonia, Latvia’s historic charm, and Lithuania’s dynamic spirit will serve as proving grounds for these invaluable resources.

The culmination of these efforts will be encapsulated in the “Book of Business,” a compendium of best practices and transferrable insights tailored for the micro-businesses dotting the region. This digital repository will serve as both a guidebook and a testament to the perseverance and innovation that arise when Nordic minds unite.
